This was an email sent to parents - and was prompted by the requests for advice with some over active
youngsters:
My son Austin (God Bless him for letting me talk about him....) was always into something, and very
"directed".... only NOT by ME!!!, but by himself..... it took me a couple of years of "young motherhood" (and
prayer) before I saw that this was / is not his downfall.... this is his blessing......
For those of you who were at our dance recitals on November 28th, Austin was the one running like crazy
and sweating..... and his only concern was how many people he could care for, and how completely he could
do it...... While everyone who assisted with recital was excellent, watching him reminded me of when he was
small, and he had this "I'm doing it all, and I'm doing it now" approach. He is the same mind, heart and soul,
just bigger, and trained to pick and choose his direction and focus. It is this very strong will, and energy that
has also placed him in the college it has, and in the field he has chosen. My heart goes out to some of the
little people I see, who have very good hearts, but are not sure of what to do with their over abundance of
energy and emotion. Just remember, this is NOT your child's downfall..... it's their blessing.... Just disguised
:)
Never give up channeling their energy, if you get frustrated it means you are concerned - and it's good that
you are not apathetic or just plan tired of trying.
Once they have grown, the true character of a person will always show, usually when things are not going
their way .... and their thoughts, reaction, truly define who they are and their dignity or lack of it. That is why
it is important to learn to channel emotion and energy appropriately and with respect as a child..... to the
parents who emailed me this week asking for advice..... don't worry - you are on the right track, and it's an
honor to be a part of your lives.
