Dubuque Dance Studio and Gymnastics Club was founded in 1953 , by Carolu Digman Welbes and her husband James Welbes. The business transferred ownership in 1996 to Deanne and David Hohmann.

Deanne M Hohmann (owner and director) has been a member at the Dubuque Dance Studio and Gymnastics Club since the age of three. Graduate of Hempstead High School in Dubuque, attended the University of Iowa and is now an adjunct Professor of Physical Education at the University of Dubuque. She has been a professional instructor for 29 years of all disciplines; tap, ballet, jazz, pointe, tumbling, gymnastics, musical theater as well as choreography for many musical and stage productions around the area. Many of her students not only continue through the college level pursuing their dance, but make a living off of their professional dance careers.

David Hohmann has been coaching gymnastics since 1996. He is a graduate of Hempstead High School in Dubuque. He is certified as a skill evaluator with USA Gymnastics, Safety Certified, and KAT Certified. He was nominated Nationally for Coach of the Year with AAU/USTA, has several National, 1st Place Tumbling Champions and several first place contenders in Gymnastics under USA Gymnastics. David has also worked along side Internationally known Bela Karolyi, attending his summer camps and worked with his coaches.

David and Deanne have been married since 1986, have three children; Alicia, Austin, and AJ. Alicia toured the country with Dance Caravan USA in 2004 and won National Awards, and was awarded Miss Dance Caravan Kid at the close of the tour. Austin and AJ are former State Tumbling Champions. The Hohmann Family welcomes you and your child(ren) into their Studio Family.

Elizabeth Graham has competed
as a gymnast from the ages of
ten to eighteen. Some of her
favorite memories from gymanstics
are going to nationals in Niagra Falls,
New York, making it to state her junior
year in high school, getting MVP her
senior year, meeting the Hamm
brothers in Milwaukee, and spending
summers at Lake Owen and Porter
gymnastics camp in Wisconsin. She
is a student at the University of Dubuque
and is majoring in Elementary Education and will be receiving
endorsements in Special Education and Reading. She recently
married her high school sweetheart on October 25, 2008. Miss
Beth instructs all levels of gymnastics at our club.

Austin is a graduate of Senior High
School in Dubuque. He is a former
State Tumbling Champion, and also
has a dance background. He attends
NICC and will be transferring to Iowa
State University for Chemical
Engineering. Austin coaches
from preschool - competition. He is
one of our coaches for our
Maquoketa location. He is also
an assistant gymnastics team coach
and tumbling team coach.
Austin also works in the office.


Alicia was a Dance Caravan Kid in the summer of 2004. At the end of this
national tour she received the “Miss DCK” for overall performance, talent,
dedication and positive attitude. While a Junior on the Dance Company,
she received the Junior version of the “Most Promising Talent”, the
“Junior Danny and Betty Hoctor Award” at Dance Caravan, as well as a
full PDTA scholarship. She was a Cheerleader at Dubuque Senior
High School, a volunteer choreographer for the Central High School
Hip Hop Club. Alicia has performed at the Orange Bowl, Disney World,
on the Royal Caribbean Cruise, and in June 2006 will be performing at
Pearl Harbor and on the Norwegian Cruise Line - Pride of Hawaii. Alicia
graduated from Senior High School and atended NICC. She was
employed with Dance Caravan the summer of 2006. She has received
many choreography awards and scholarships in 2007 & 2008. Alicia is our Competition Coach
and Choreographer, she is also our instructor for Galena, Hanover, Peosta and Maquoketa.
Kurstin Wiewel grew up in the Chicagoland area. She is currently a student
at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville majoring in Chemistry –
forensics and biochemistry. She also has a criminal justice minor and
biology minor. Kurstin started dancing at the age of 5, and growing up,
competed around the country in various national competitions earning
many 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies for jazz, ballet, pointe, hip hop,
modern, tap, lyrical, and production/character dances. During her high
school career, she was also in the Visual and Performing Arts Academy –
Dance focus – which took place within the Larkin High School daily
curriculum. Kurstin was also a competing gymnast. Since starting
gymnastics at 3 years old, she began competing club gymnastics at 6
years old and making it to 5 state meets. She went on to later compete
on her high school varsity team as a freshman and sophomore as well. Kurstin instructs all levels
of gymnastics and dance st Dubuque Dance Studio and Gymnastics Club.


Cameron Ramsey is our Hip Hop
Instructor. While Hip Hop is his main
discipline, he is also involved and
training in other disciplines ranging in
ballet to gymnastics. He is a graduate
of Senior High School and attend NICC.
He is a favorite among both students
and parents.
